Protein-based tags are a class of modified fluorescent proteins commonly derived from an organism found in nature. For example, phycobiliproteins are fluorescent proteins derived from cyanobacteria and algae. Phycobiliproteins are advantageous because of their intense long-wavelength excitation and emission, relatively high fluorescent quantum efficiency and high water solubility. AAT Bioquest offers a selection of fluorescent proteins for protein-based tagging such as allophycocyanin (APC), phycoerythrin (PE), and peridinin-chlorophyll-protein complexes (PerCP). Readily available in preactivated and tandem conjugate forms our phycobiliproteins are well-suited for various imaging, immunoassay, and flow cytometry applications.
