para-Nitrophenylphosphate (pNPP) is a chromogenic substrate for acid and alkaline phosphatase in ELISA assays. In the presence of phosphatases pNPP is hydrolyzed to generate the yellow para-nitrophenol that can be measured at 405 nm with an absorption microplate reader or a spectrophotometer.
