Are rhodamines toxic?

Posted September 29, 2021

Answer

Yes, rhodamines are highly toxic to humans and to the aquatic environment.

When inhaled, ingested, or in case of direct contact, they can cause nausea, headaches, shortness of breath, and skin irritation, or serious eye damage.

Rhodamines cause acute and chronic damage to the aquatic environment.

Because of its high toxicity, rhodamines must be handled and stored carefully adhering to all recommended safety precautions. It’s crucial to call a poison center or a doctor immediately after exposure to the dye.

To avoid accidental poisoning or environmental pollution, Rhodamines must not be disposed of along with household garbage. Unused product, empty containers and all equipment and materials used in the experiment must be kept in approved waste containers to be picked up and disposed of by a licensed professional waste disposal service.
