What are matrix metallopeptidases?
Posted February 25, 2020

Answer

Matrix metallopeptidases (MMP) are metalloproteinases that are calcium-dependent zinc-containing endopeptidases. MMP enzymes are capable of degrading all kinds of extracellular matrix proteins, and also can process a number of bioactive molecules. For example, MMPs play a role in the cleavage of cell surface receptors, cell proliferation, and other functions.
