Answer

Prokaryotes and eukaryotes are two distinctly different types of cells with a few features that are common to both.

Features common to prokaryotes and eukaryotes:

  • Proteins, carbohydrates, lipids and nucleic acids are the major bio molecules
  • Enclosed within a plasma membrane filled with cytoplasm
  • Inner and outer side of the cell are separated by a lipid bilayer or plasma layer
  • DNA is the common genetic material, with similar mechanisms of replication, translation, and transcription
  • Ribosomes are involved in protein synthesis
  • Use energy released by the hydrolysis of ATP to carry out certain cellular processes
  • Carry out basic life processes such as reproduction, photosynthesis, and flow of nutrients in and out of cellules
  • Supported by a cytoskeleton within the cell
