How are macrophages beneficial to the human body?

Posted March 5, 2024

Answer

Macrophages serve several critical functions in the human body. They secrete pro-inflammatory cytokines and antimicrobial mediators that offer the body protection against viral and bacterial functions and also help in mediating muscle repair through an anti-inflammatory response. Macrophages also protect the brain against neuronal damage and help maintain homeostasis by regulating levels of iron and bilirubin in the liver.
