The membrane used in reverse osmosis is designed to allow only water molecules to pass through while blocking larger particles and solutes (up to 99.99%). Thus, it results in purified drinking water. Reverse Osmosis is also used for desalination, which involves pumping seawater through a membrane under high pressure to separate salt and minerals, producing fresh water. Another application is for power plants particularly on high-pressure boilers, to generate pure water. Additionally, reverse osmosis serves as a prevalent method for physically treating water in industrial settings.
