What are the similarities between finite and continuous cell lines?

Posted November 6, 2023

Answer

They both originate from primary cell cultures. Finite cells can be taken directly from living organisms, while continuous cells can be taken from tumors. Another similarity is that both types of cell lines are used for research in in vitro studies. For example continuous cell lines are often used in reproductive biology research to study issues in parturition and early pregnancy.  Both cell lines are also categorized based on their capability to divide.
