What are the similarities between karyotype and chromosome microarray?

Posted August 16, 2023

Answer

There are various similarities between karyotype and chromosome microarray. They are both techniques used for analyzing chromosomes and for detecting chromosomal abnormalities. Karyotype and chromosome microarray are both used to detect aneuploid chromosome mosaicism. However, there are some differences in the detections of aneuploid mosaicism. This is because karyotype analysis detects entire chromosomes, and in contrast CMA analyzes gene fragments. Karyotype and chromosome microarray are also both commonly used for clinical purposes in prenatal testing and diagnosis of genetic and developmental disorders. Both karyotype and CMA also require a sample of cells to carry out their procedures, such as blood or amniotic fluid.
