What are the therapeutic uses of growth factors?

Posted October 10, 2023

Answer

Growth factors can be used for a wide range of therapeutic uses, particularly for patients with any type of wounds. Growth factors are mainly used for patients with chronic, non-healing wounds (e.g. chronic leg ulcers and diabetic foot ulcers). Additionally, growth factors are used to treat conditions such as tendinitis, cartilage defects, carpal tunnel syndrome, osteoarthritis, and knee ligament injuries. Growth factor therapy is most effectively carried out through an injection intravenously which yields rapid results. It can also be given through a cream or gel which is applied into wounds or through skin grafts. It has also been shown that growth factors work effectively with topical oxygen therapy in the treatment for deep second-degree burns.
