What does epigenetic change do?

Posted April 12, 2024

Answer

These changes influence how genes are turned on or off, and thus affect various cellular processes and traits. Epigenetic modifications, such as DNA methylation, non-coding RNA molecules, and histone modifications influence gene expression by altering the accessibility of DNA and chromatin structure. This regulation determines which genes are transcribed into mRNA and eventually translated into proteins.
