What is allosteric inhibition in biochemistry?

Posted April 4, 2024

Answer

In biochemistry, allosteric inhibition refers to a non-competitive inhibition process in which a molecule binds with an enzyme at an allosteric site, which is a secondary site distinct from the active binding site. This binding at the allosteric site modifies the active site’s structure, blocking access for the substrate, and decreasing the enzyme’s activity and efficacy.
