The GFP chromophore is the specific chemical structure within the Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP) molecule that is responsible for its green fluorescence. It can either be in either its protonated (neutral) or deprotonated (anionic) form. The GFP chromophore is a structure known as p-hydroxybenzylidene-imidazolidone.
