Answer

The largest organ in the human body is the skin. The skin of an average adult has a surface area of over 21 square feet and makes up for approximately 16%  of body weight. The skin is classified as an organ because it has specific functions in the body such as regulation of body temperature and protecting other organs from harmful bacteria, chemicals, and temperature which requires some specialized tissues.
