What is the relationship between IncRNA and microRNA (miRNA)?

Posted March 11, 2024

Answer

Gene expression regulation in plants occurs through the interaction between miRNAs and lncRNAs. miRNAs can target lncRNAs, leading to the generation of phased small interfering RNAs (phasiRNAs), while lncRNAs can act as sources of miRNAs or modulate the abundance and function of miRNAs at both transcriptional and post-transcriptional levels. These interactions play a crucial role in plant physiology, development, and responses to various environmental stresses. MiRNAs and lncRNAs also play significant roles in cancer development by regulating crucial genes that affect tumor growth, metastasis, and invasion. They achieve this through the initiation of oncogenic pathways and suppressing the expression of tumor suppressor genes. Additionally, miRNAs and IncRNAs are both involved in drug sensitivity and drug resistance mechanisms.
