What is therapeutic cloning?

Posted March 13, 2024

Answer

Therapeutic cloning is a procedure in which nuclear material is isolated and removed from a somatic cell and transferred into an enucleated unfertilized egg or oocyte. The nuclear material contains genetic material. When transferred into the oocyte, it begins to create embryonic stem cells with the identical genome as the original nuclear donor. The embryonic stem cells can be harvested and used to generate cultured stem cells with a genetic composition that’s identical to the original somatic cell.
