At room temperature, Formaldehyde (Also known as: Formalin, Methanal, Methylene Oxide) is a colorless, flammable gas that has a distinct, pungent smell. It is typically available dissolved into a liquid known as a liquid called formalin, mixed with water and methanol. It is used as a preservative in mortuaries and medical laboratories, and as an antimicrobial agent and disinfectant. Formaldehyde is carcinogenic to humans. It can be absorbed into the body by inhalation, through the skin and by ingestion, as well as direct eye contact.
