Taurine (Also known as: 2-Aminoethanesulfonic Acid, Tauphon) appears as large white crystals or white powder. It is a naturally occurring amino acid derived from methionine and cysteine metabolism. It has been used as an oral supplement in the treatment of disorders such as cystic fibrosis and hypertension. It is also a common additive in "energy" drinks along with caffeine. It is a mild skin and eye irritant, and can be absorbed via ingestion, or skin/eye contact.
