Do prokaryotic cells have the Golgi apparatus?

Posted April 2, 2021

Answer

No, prokaryotic cells do not contain any membrane-bound organelles. These include the Golgi apparatus, mitochondria, endoplasmic reticulum and lysosomes. Prokaryotic cells also lack a membrane-bound nucleus, although they do have genetic material located in a nucleoid region. Prokaryotic cells are surrounded by a plasma membrane, and some types of bacteria have cell walls as well.
