What are histones in DNA and their functions?
Posted February 1, 2024

Answer

Histones are proteins which serve as a type of support structure for chromosomes within the cell nucleus. Within each chromosome, the DNA molecule needs to fit into the relatively small cell nucleus. To achieve this, the DNA coils around groups of histone proteins, creating a more condensed and compact structure for the chromosome.
