What is immunohistochemistry (IHC)?

Posted May 2, 2024

Answer

Immunohistochemistry (IHC) is the most widely-used type of immunostaining method. This powerful technique is based on the specific binding between an antigen and antibody, which allows for the detection and localization of specific antigens in tissue and cells. The binding can be visualized by light microscopy. In this process, antibodies, and special markers are used to label parts of a tissue sample, enabling easier identification for the purpose of diagnoses.
