Are primary antibodies protein specific?

Posted September 28, 2021

Answer

Yes, primary antibodies are protein specific.

Every primary antibody has a distinct amino acid sequence. The unique amino acid sequence of a primary antibody determines its affinity for a specific protein. This protein-specific property of primary antibodies finds use in assays performed for the purpose of detecting, measuring and purifying a target protein.
