What is FRET efficiency?

FRET efficiency indicates the proportion of donor molecules that have transferred excitation state energy to the acceptor molecules. FRET efficiency is affected by distance between the proteins. The most precise results are obtained when investigating two molecules that are at a distance of about 1 – 10 nanometers from each other.
