What is RNA sequencing?

Posted February 28, 2022

Answer

RNA-sequencing (RNA-seq) is a laboratory technique that’s used to determine the quantity and exact sequence of RNA in a sample. RNA in a cell is copied from pieces of DNA. It contains information that’s required to produce proteins and perform various key functions. RNA-seq facilitates the detection of both known and novel features in a single assay. This allows researchers to learn more about which genes are expressed in different types of cells as well as how and when these genes are expressed. RNA-sequencing is a vital tool in various aspects of cancer research and therapy.
