What is a monolayer culture?

Posted December 7, 2020

Answer

A monolayer culture is an adherent cell culture where cells are attached and grown in a single layer on an artificial substrate. It requires periodic passaging and growth is limited by the surface area of the artificial substrates. Other than hematopoietic cell lines (i.e. blood cells), adherent cell culture is suitable for most cell types.
