What is the difference between PLL and PDL for surface coating?

Both poly-L-lysine (PLL) and poly-D-lysine (PDL) are used to help facilitate cell adhesion, spreading, and growth. However, some cell types release proteases that may break down PLL, in which case PDL should be used.
