How do I quantify the basicity of amines?
Posted May 17, 2024
Chemical Reagents
Intracellular Ions
Intracellular pH
Answer
To quantify the basicity of amines, one should look at the
pKa
of its conjugate acid. The higher the pKa of the conjugate acid, the stronger the base. In contrast, the lower the pKa of the conjugate acid, the weaker the base.
