How is the basement membrane formed?

Posted October 27, 2023

Answer

The basement membrane is formed from a self-assembly process by a mixture of molecules including IV collagen and laminin. Laminins and type IV collagens are bound to nidogens -1 and -2 and to the proteoglycans agrin and perlecan. Integrins and dystroglycan are two types of receptors which facilitate the formation of the network of laminin.
