What are ions?

Answer

An ion is a tiny particle carrying an electrical charge. Ions can be either cations (+) or anions (-). Cations are formed when an atom loses electrons. Anions are formed when an atom gains electrons. Cations and anions are referred to as single-charged atoms, also known as simple ions.
