How do I determine the type of bond formed between two atoms?

Posted February 14, 2024

Answer

The type of bond formed between two elements can be determined by comparing their electronegativities. Electronegativity dictates how the electrons shared in a bond are divided up between the two atoms. If an atom has a higher electronegativity, it typically results in the formation of an ionic bond. On the other hand, if the electronegativity difference is smaller, it tends to lead to the formation of a covalent bond.
