What are the applications of the bacterial protein expression system?

Posted August 5, 2023

Answer

The most common applications of the bacterial protein expression system include: protein interactions, antibody generation, structural analysis, and functional assays. These systems have short doubling times, making them ideal for use in generating antibody fragments. Fab fragments can be generated in high yields using these systems. These systems also are involved in structural analysis, as they are used in X-ray crystallography to determine protein structures. Bacterial protein expression systems are also used in high-throughput screening assays to test large libraries of compounds for drug discovery or protein-protein interactions.
