Answer

Acridine orange is a cell-permeable fluorescent dye with these chemical properties: 

  • Molecular Formula = C17H19N3  
  • Molecular Weight = 265.35 g/mol
  • Dark orange to brown powder
  • Soluble in water, ethanol, and dimethyl sulfoxide
  • Produces green fluorescence on binding with DNA and orange fluorescence on binding to RNA and green fluorescence when it binds to DNA
