What are the differences between dilution and titration?

Posted December 15, 2022

Answer

Basis of differentiation

Dilution

Titration

Definition

Dilution is the process of decreasing the concentration of a sample

Titration is an analytical technique where a solution of known concentration is used to determine the concentration of an unknown solution

Variation of values

The concentration can be easily changed

The concentration cannot be changed by titration

Determination of concentration

Dilution cannot be used to determine the composition of a sample

Can be used to determine the percent composition of compounds

Process difficulty

Is an easier process which only the addition of more solvent is necessary

Is more difficult because a laboratory apparatus is required for titration
