What are the examples of facultative anaerobes?

Facultative anaerobes are highly adaptable organisms that can survive in the presence or absence of oxygen. They are capable of switching from aerobic to anaerobic respiration depending on the availability of molecular oxygen.  

Examples of facultative anaerobes include: 

  • Salmonella
  • Streprococcus spp
  • Listeria
  • Escherichia coli
  • Corynebacterium
  • Staphylococcus spp
  • Shewanella oneidensis
