What are the types of growth factor receptors?

Posted October 10, 2023

Answer

Types of growth factor receptors include: EGF receptor, KGF receptor, TGF receptor, IGF receptor, PDGF and VEGF receptor.

  1. EGF (epidermal growth factor) receptor stimulates the growth of fibroblasts, which are cells that produce collagen. It also supports cell renewal through the interaction between fibroblasts and keratinocytes.
  2. KGF receptor (keratinocyte growth factor) promotes the growth of keratinocytes, which secrete the protein keratin. It also regulations migration and differentiation of these cells and protects them from harmful external substances under stress conditions.
  3. TGF receptor promotes the growth of new blood vessels to create a sufficient supply of blood flow to a healing wound.
  4. VEGF promotes angiogenesis and is an essential growth factor for vascular endothelial cells; it is up-regulated in many tumors.
  5. PDGF receptor (platelet-derived growth factor) attracts fibroblasts and macrophages to the area of injured tissues for repair.
  6. IGF receptor binds to its cell surface receptors (such as type I insulin-like growth factor receptor) and then initiates multiple signaling pathways including PI3k/Akt, JAK/STAT, and MAPK.
