What is acid-base titration?

Posted October 10, 2023

Answer

Acid-base titration is a quantitative technique used to obtain information about a solution containing an acid or base. A vast amount of compounds (either organic or inorganic) can be determined by titration based on their acidic or basic properties. An acid is titrated with a base and a base is titrated with an acid. The endpoint is typically detected by adding an indicator. This technique can be used to determine the concentration of an acid or base, the pKa of an unknown acid, pKb of an unknown base, and whether an unknown acid or base is strong or weak.
