Solvent

  • Is a substance that dissolves a solid, liquid or gaseous solute, resulting in a solution
  • Is typically a liquid
  • Does not play any active role in a reaction
  • Is used for the purpose of dissolving reactants in order to facilitate a reaction

Reagent

  • Facilitates the chemical reaction between two reactants 
  • Is actively involved in chemical reactions
  • Gets converted into different compounds after the reaction
