What is the importance of cell cycle control?

Posted June 8, 2023

Answer

There are several reasons why cell cycle control is important. One key reason is that it prevents the progression of malignancies in the body. Malignancies occur when cells divide uncontrollably. For this reason, the cell cycle is a tightly regulated process which ensures that a dividing cell’s DNA is copied correctly, that each daughter cell receives a complete set of chromosomes, and any errors in DNA are repaired. Cell cycle control is also important for ensuring proper chromosome segregation takes place, preserving overall genomic stability.
