Enzyme specificity is significant because it recognizes the various metabolic pathways consisting of hundreds of enzymes and keeps them separate. The ability of an enzyme to bind to a specific substrate from a wide range of chemically similar compounds is referred to as enzyme specificity. 

Not all enzymes are highly specific.Different enzymes exhibit different levels of substrate specificity.
