What is the significance of enzyme specificity?

Posted July 6, 2023

Answer

Enzyme specificity is significant because it recognizes the various metabolic pathways consisting of hundreds of enzymes and keeps them separate. The ability of an enzyme to bind to a specific substrate from a wide range of chemically similar compounds is referred to as enzyme specificity.

Not all enzymes are highly specific. Different enzymes exhibit different levels of substrate specificity.
