What is the significance of exosome research?

Exosome research is important because it has the potential to increase the efficiency with which therapeutic drugs can be transported from the peripheral veins and delivered to specific tissues and organs. 

Exosomes are considered to be a superior drug delivery platform because of their comparatively enhanced physicochemical stability, biocompatibility, and ability to permeate the bio-barrier as well as its lower toxicity. The main focus of exosome research is to gain insights into mechanisms underlying various diseases and explore ways to engineer exosomes to be used as targeted drug delivery vehicles, regenerative medicine tools, or vaccines. Exosomes offer advantages such as natural biocompatibility, low immunogenicity, and the ability to cross biological barriers, making them ideal for therapeutic applications.

Although current exosome research shows great promise for improving disease diagnostics and developing better therapeutic approaches, the field is still evolving and lots more needs to be done to fully understand the potential and limitations of exosomes in various applications.
