What type of cells do not undergo mitosis?

Posted January 30, 2024

Answer

Cells that become specialized into specific cells such as neurons, skeletal muscle cells, and certain mature blood cells (like B-cells, red blood cells, and T-cells) typically halt mitotic division beyond certain developmental stages. Additionally, sex cells do not undergo mitosis since they instead reproduce via meiosis. Prokaryotic cells also do not undergo mitosis (or meiosis), as they divide by binary fission.
