What types of RNA can be analyzed using RNA-seq?

Posted August 10, 2023

Answer

RNA-seq allows for the analysis of the whole transcriptome from a sample, including rRNAs, tRNAs, mRNAs, miRNAs, and IncRnas. mRNA-seq is the common application of RNA-seq and gives information about gene expression levels and novel transcript discovery. IncRNA are longer than RNA molecules (>200 nucleotides) and have roles in epigenetic regulation. miRNAs are small RNA molecules (approximately 22 nucleotides) that regulate gene expression by binding to target mRNAs. miRNA-seq allows for the profiling of miRNA expression patterns. tRNAs are small RNA molecules that are removed or depleted before RNA-seq library preparation.
