Why is the Krebs cycle called the citric acid cycle?

Answer

Krebs cycle is called the citric acid cycle because citric acid is the first product formed in the cycle. Citric acid is formed by the condensation of acetyl CoA with Oxaloacetic acid (OAA) and water. Krebs cycle is also known as TCA (tricarboxylic acid) cycle.
