Osmotic Pressure Calculator
Osmotic pressure is the amount of pressure required to prevent the flow of solvent across the
semipermeable membrane due to the concentration difference between the solution and the pure
solvent. Osmotic pressure is a colligative property of solutions. Changes in osmotic pressure depends
only on the concentration of solute particles in the solution, regardless of their identity.
Osmotic pressure has important practical applications in fields such as biology, food science, and
chemical engineering.
Equation
Osmotic Pressure | = | number of ions × osmotic coefficient × molar concentration (mol/L) × 8.314 × temperature (K) |
