Serum amyloid A1 (SAA1) is a major acute-phase protein. It is produced primarily by hepatocytes in response to proinflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α) or interleukin 6 (IL-6). Under inflammatory conditions, such as infection or malignancy, plasma concentrations of SAA1 can increase as high as 1000-fold. As such, it has become a promising reliable clinical indicator and biomarker for inflammatory diseases, chronic disorder and late-stage malignancy. Anti-SAA1 monoclonal antibodies are highly sensitive for the detection of human serum amyloid A1 immunogens. They can be used in the development of a broad range of immunoassays including gold immunochromatographic assays (GICA) and latex enhanced turbidimetric immunoassays (LETIA).

<p>Clinical comparison of AAT Bioquest’s LETIA immunoassay and a competitor’s immunoassay: anti-SAA1 monoclonal antibodies were evaluated in medium-scale clinical tries with 100 blood samples from donors. The correlation coefficient (r) is as high as 0.93 between in-house latex reagents and commercial SAA1 immunoassay showing good agreement between the two systems.</p>
