Folate receptor β (alternatively called folate receptor, fetal/placental, placental folate-binding protein, FBP or folate receptor 2) is a protein with a molecular weight of 29 kDa, expressed in the anchored component of external side of plasma membrane, extracellular region and cell surface of cells. In Homo sapiens, folate receptor 2 has been associated with key functions such as folic acid receptor and signaling receptor activity. Folate receptor 2 aids in organismal processes, namely, folic acid transport, inflammatory response and folic acid metabolic process. Folate receptor 2 is thought to be essential to thymidylate synthase biosynthetic process.
