HLA class I histocompatibility antigen, B α chain is a 47 kDa transmembrane protein that can be expressed in the early endosome membrane, recycling endosome membrane and extracellular exosome of cells. In humans, HLA class I histocompatibility antigen, B α chain takes part in processes such as interleukin-12 production, immune response and dendritic cell differentiation. It acts to positively regulate T cell mediated cytotoxicity. It reacts with chaperone, peptide antigen and TAP. Sequencing of HLA class I histocompatibility antigen, B α chain has exemplified it contains 3 conserved structural units: cytoplasmic, Ig-like C1-type and extracellular domain. HLA class I histocompatibility antigen, B α chain is the subject of extensive examination stemming from the fact that it is a component of the type I interferon signaling pathway, interferon-γ-mediated signaling pathway and antigen processing and presentation of endogenous peptide antigen via MHC class I, TAP-independent, and moreover, takes part in processes such as organismal processes, for example, viral process, adaptive immune response and defense response. HLA class I histocompatibility antigen, B α chain is clinically significant because abnormalities in its function have been thought to be involved with diseases like Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) and Spondyloarthropathy 1 (SPDA1).
