5-Bromo-2'-deoxyuridine (Bromodeoxyuridine, bromodeoxyuridine, BrdU, 5-bromodeoxyuridine, BUdR, BrDu, BUDR) is a pyrimidine 2'-deoxyribonucleoside compound having 5-bromouracil as the nucleobase. It has a variety of applications in the examination of key cell-based enzymes such as thymidylate kinase, sphingomyelin phosphodiesterase and thermostable purine nucleoside phosphorylase, especially in cell-lines like control fibroblasts, dividing cells and malignant cells. Harmonised basis, cell cycle and superpathway of pyrimidine deoxyribonucleotides de novo biosynthesis are, namely, just a few of the processes that it has helped researchers to better understand.
