Serine/threonine-protein kinase B-raf (sometimes called v-Raf murine sarcoma viral oncogene homolog B1, Proto-oncogene B-Raf or p94) is a protein with a molecular weight of 98 kDa, expressed in the cytosol, intracellular membrane-bounded organelle and mitochondrion of cells. In Homo sapiens, v-Raf murine sarcoma viral oncogene homolog B1 negatively regulates apoptotic process while also is a promoter of gene expression, glucose transmembrane transport and peptidyl-serine phosphorylation. Sequencing of v-Raf murine sarcoma viral oncogene homolog B1 has exemplified it contains 2 conserved structural units: protein kinase and RBD domain. v-Raf murine sarcoma viral oncogene homolog B1 has been associated with key functions such as protein kinase and protein serine/threonine kinase activity. v-Raf murine sarcoma viral oncogene homolog B1 recognizes calcium ion, scaffold protein and ATP. It is the subject of intensive examination in part because of the fact that it acts in the epidermal growth factor receptor signaling pathway. It plays an important role in organismal processes, in particular, animal organ morphogenesis, protein phosphorylation and cellular response to calcium ion. v-Raf murine sarcoma viral oncogene homolog B1 is clinically significant because abnormalities in its function have been associated with diseases like cardiofaciocutaneous syndrome 1 (CFC1), Noonan syndrome 7 (NS7) and Lung cancer (LNCR). Cardiofaciocutaneous syndrome 1, an autosomal dominant inheritancedisorder characterized by absent eyebrow, dermatitis, atopic and hypoplasia of the frontal lobes, has especially been of interest to investigators.
