Vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 1 (VEGFR-1) is a 151 kDa transmembrane protein that can be found in the plasma membrane, extracellular space and endosome of cells. It is also known as tyrosine-protein kinase receptor FLT(VEGFR-1), tyrosine-protein kinase FRT and vascular permeability factor receptor. In Homo sapiens, tyrosine-protein kinase receptor FLT is thought to be essential to organismal processes, for example, cellular response to vascular endothelial growth factor stimulus, peptidyl-tyrosine phosphorylation and multicellular organism development. Additionally, it has been thought to be involved with critical functions like VEGF-A-activated receptor, VEGF-B-activated receptor and transmembrane receptor protein tyrosine kinase activity. Tyrosine-protein kinase receptor FLT acts to positively regulate MAP kinase activity, angiogenesis and cell migration, on the other hand, also is an inhibitor of vascular endothelial cell proliferation. Sequencing of tyrosine-protein kinase receptor FLT has shown it contains 10 conserved structural units: Ig-like C2-type 1, Ig-like C2-type 2, Ig-like C2-type 3, Ig-like C2-type 4, Ig-like C2-type 5, Ig-like C2-type 6, Ig-like C2-type 7, extracellular, protein kinase and cytoplasmic domain. It binds with ATP, vascular endothelial growth factor. Tyrosine-protein kinase receptor FLT is the subject of extensive study because of the fact that it is a member of the transmembrane receptor protein tyrosine kinase signaling pathway, vascular endothelial growth factor receptor-1 signaling pathway and vascular endothelial growth factor receptor signaling pathway.
